IGNOU - Indira Gandhi National Open University

Indira Gandhi National Open University was established in September 1985, by an Act of Parliament, with a view to democratise education, so that it covers large segments of population, vocations and professions. The primary emphasis is on innovation, flexibility and cost effective­ness. Student support services are provided by the University through a network of study centres scattered all over the country. Senior and experienced acadmics are engaged in face-to-face counselling at study centres.

 

A programme study centre of IGNOU started functioning in this college during July 2004. The centre is engaged to utilise the idle and surplus resources of the college for the betterment of the society. Through the IGNOU study centre, the college offers education opportunities to those including housewives, businessmen, employed persons etc. The study centre currently of­fers B.P.P. (equivalent +2), B. Com. and M. Com. degree programmes under convergence scheme and distance education modes. It also offers Diploma Programme in German Language, Creative writing etc also at nominal fee. More than fifteen IGNOU approved academic counsellors from different disciplines viz; Commerce, Economics, Statistics, Politics, English, Hindi, Malayalam, Physics and Chemistry conduct counselling sessions for the students. The centre remains open on Sundays and other public holidays. Dr. V.V. Georgekutty, Reader in Commerce is the Programme-in-charge of the study centre.
