Dear students, teachers, alumni and well wishers................ This academic year is our diamond jubilee year. Our college is entering its 60th year on 7th August 2009. It is an occasion to thank God Almighty for showering thy blessings on us during the last 60 years. We have to remember with gratitude our founder fathers, our former teachers and the general public for their generous support and sincere efforts. May I pay tributes to the memory of our founder Patron Bishop Mar Sebastian Vayalil, former Patron Bishop Mar Joseph Pallikaparampil, our former managers, principals and teachers who strived hard to make our institution an internationally reputed centre of higher education with 13 UG and 14 PG programs having 12 research centers in various disciplines. Today we are guided by H.E.Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangattu as Patron and Very Rev.Fr. Eanas Ottathengumkal as Manager. St. Thomas College, Palai was a long cherished dream of the agrarian society of Meenachil. This college had brought culture and education to our people. Our teacher and alumni have adorned very reputed positions in public life as Chief Justices, Governor, Ministers, M.L.A.s, M.P.s, Vice Chancellors, Scientists, Teachers, IAS-IFS, ISS-IES officers etc. Our contribution to sports and games at national/international level is enviable with many Arjuna Awardees and Olympians. Let us have a retrospect on our glorious past and jubilant present and plan for an illustrious future. Ours is the only college in India having more than 60 out of 100 faculty members having Ph.D. with high quality publications and excellent research experience. Our departments of Statistics, Botany and Chemistry are DST-FIST supported.Our Department of Hindi started P.G.program in 1957 and more than 65 research scholars were awarded Ph.D. so far. We have the best library facilities in our campus with our Golden Jubilee Memorial Library having more than 85000 books, 300 periodicals and research journals. In addition, in our campus we have the M.G.University Library Centre with more than 20000 books and over 5000 e-journals under UGC Inflibnet and the DST sponsored Centre for Mathematical Sciences having world class facilities for research in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Chemistry etc. Thanks to DST-FIST support and UGC grants our laboratories are well equipped and updated with modern equipments and advanced computing facilities. Last year our students bagged 19 University Ranks and more than 20 secured UGC-CSIR NET/JRF. The modern era is noted for skill development along with academic excellence. You must be well equipped to meet the needs of the job market as well as to face the challenges of the open market economy full of competition. We should stand for values and noble virtues. We should be role models for our society. Our society has been so vibrant and fortunate to produce Sri. K.R. Narayanan, the former President of India and Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, the present Chief Justice of India who is one of our illustrious alumni. Dear students, this college is for you. This college is proud of you. You are our ambassadors. Let us pledge to become worthy and responsible citizens of India with deep-rooted values and faith in God and a quest for knowledge and excellence. Let us be proud of our glorious past.
